Bahrain Garden Club honours 2021 competition winners

Bahrain Garden Club has announced the winners of the 55th Competitions 2021 in a ceremony held at Al Jasra Organic Farm, in the presence of Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, Hideki Ito, the Ambassador of Japan to Bahrain, Yasser Abdulrahman Alraee, the Managing Director of Riffa Views, Anoop Kewalaram as representative of the Bahrain-Japan Business and Friendship Society, the members of the Club’s board of directors, and the winners.

Shaikha Maram congratulated the winners in all categories and expressed her wishes of success to all participants in the upcoming competitions.

She commended the club’s efforts in holding the ceremony under strict precautionary measures imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation necessitated hosting the ceremony privately after it was held over the past years as a major event on the sideline of the Bahrain International Garden Show organised annually under the auspices His Majesty the King .

In her opening speech, Bahrain Garden Club President Zahra Abdulmalik, praised the continuous support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, and the special effort she has generously accorded to developing agriculture in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Bahrain Garden Club over the years.

She thanked Shaikha Maram for her constant support to the club and the Japanese Ambassador for the active partnership with the club for many years.

Zahra also thanked the Riffa Views Company and the Bahrain-Japan Business and Friendship Society for their cooperation as well as the club’s board of directors for their hard work and their commitment to holding the competitions despite the difficult circumstances caused by the pandemic.

Zahra said that various organisations in the Capital were assessed in terms of their effort in creating and maintaining beautiful gardens that contain varieties of trees and plants and help beautify and clear the environment. Also this year and despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, school students have participated from home in the Riffa Views Cup category. With their teachers’ supervision, students created decorative displays of art suitable to be placed in their school gardens. Each group of students produced a video explaining the stages of work and emailed it to the club. The club received 50 submissions for this category, she added.

The diversity of the prizes in the annual competition has contributed to increasing the number of participants, both citizens and residents, interested in agricultural development in Bahrain, an objective that the club seeks to achieve by consolidating the culture of spreading green spaces in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
