Manama:MP Ali Saqr Al Doseri participated in a workshop titled "What's on our plates? Delivering healthy food in a changing climate," as part of the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tanzania.
According to Bahrain News Agency, MP Al Doseri emphasized that Bahrain's food security is a national priority, guided by directives from King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The nation has developed a food security strategy that includes alternative production methods like hydroponics and aquaculture, aiming to diversify food sources and enhance resilience.
MP Al Doseri stated that addressing food security in countries with limited agricultural resources requires innovation and efficient resource management, rather than just increasing production. This involves using modern technologies and supporting local production.
He also stressed the importance of parliamentary roles in promoting climate-resilient agriculture, investing in modern agricultural technologies, protecting water resources, and supporting small-scale farmers. International parliamentary cooperation can further aid in exchanging successful practices in areas like climate-smart agriculture and reducing food waste.
Sustainable food security, as highlighted by MP Al Doseri, involves not only making food available but also ensuring it is accessible, healthy, and safe, while preserving resources for future generations.
