Bahrain Emphasises Commitment to Governance and Institutional Development at PUIC Conference


Jakarta: The Parliamentary Division of the Kingdom of Bahrain is actively participating in the 19th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) and its associated meetings, taking place in Jakarta. The event is held under the patronage of His Excellency Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia.



According to Bahrain News Agency, the conference, themed “Good Governance and Strong Institutions,” was inaugurated with the involvement of parliamentary leaders and representatives from Arab and Islamic countries. The Bahraini delegation is headed by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chair of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division.



In his speech, Al Musallam emphasized that the Kingdom of Bahrain, guided by the high directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, is committed to building a society anchored in law and institutions. This effort aligns with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.



Al Musallam highlighted Bahrain’s progress in areas such as education, healthcare, housing, and the empowerment of civil society institutions. He also noted initiatives in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and addressing challenges like food security and climate change.



He further stated that Bahrain supports global peace efforts and has initiated international projects promoting peace, tolerance, coexistence, and human rights. He referenced the “Intra-Islamic Dialogue: One Nation, One Shared Destiny” conference hosted by Bahrain under royal patronage.



Al Musallam also reaffirmed the importance of strong institutions under good governance for social advancement, noting the role of the Supreme Council for Women in promoting women’s rights and gender balance. This includes greater involvement of Bahraini women in political and public life and protection against discrimination.



The Speaker reiterated Bahrain’s support for the rights of the Palestinian people, advocating for an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the two-state solution and international resolutions.



He urged the conference to endorse the final communiqu© of the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference held in Bahrain and the Declaration of the 33rd Arab Summit, both supporting Palestine as the central issue of the Islamic nation.
