Bahrain Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia and Calls for UN Action

Manama:The Kingdom of Bahrain has expressed strong condemnation of the ongoing terrorist attacks perpetrated by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia, involving ballistic missiles and drones. These attacks have notably targeted regions near the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, with the missiles being intercepted by Saudi air defense systems.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement highlighting that the continued targeting of civilian objects and vital facilities by the Houthi militia poses a flagrant violation of Saudi Arabia's sovereignty and international law, including international humanitarian law. The Ministry described these actions as a dangerous escalation threatening regional security and stability and as a blatant infringement on the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques, provoking Muslims worldwide.

The Ministry reaffirmed Bahrain's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, endorsing all measures taken to protect its sovereignty, security, and stability, as well as the safety of its citizens and residents. It underscored Saudi Arabia's right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and praised the efficiency of Saudi air defense systems in intercepting attacks. The statement emphasized that the security of Saudi Arabia is integral to the security of Bahrain and all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Bahrain's call for the United Nations Security Council to enact firm measures to halt the Houthi attacks, protect religious sites and civilian lives, and hold accountable those responsible and their supporters. The Ministry urged the implementation of relevant UN resolutions, especially Resolutions 2216 and 2817, to promote regional and international peace and security.
