Bahrain Celebrates International Air Traffic Controller Day, Honouring National Aviation Safety Experts

Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain joins the international community in celebrating International Air Traffic Controller Day on October 20 each year, recognising the vital role air traffic controllers play in ensuring the efficiency, safety, and continuity of air traffic operations. They are regarded as one of the main pillars of the civil aviation system.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, stated that the day serves as an opportunity to reaffirm pride in the national professionals who have demonstrated competence in managing Bahrain's airspace efficiently. He expressed appreciation to air traffic controllers who work tirelessly around the clock to ensure the smooth and safe flow of air traffic across Bahrain's and the region's skies.

The minister noted that Bahrain places importance on developing its air traffic management systems and strengthening its position as a leading regional hub in this field. This is achieved through the training and qualification of national cadres and the adoption of the latest technological and digital systems for air traffic management. He stressed that the ministry is working in line with an ambitious vision to enhance the quality of air navigation services in accordance with the highest international standards and best practices, supporting the Kingdom's status as a key centre for civil aviation in the region.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed added that the occasion also reflects Bahrain's continued commitment to developing human capital and investing in national talent, emphasising that Bahraini professionals remain the cornerstone of the aviation sector's growth and competitiveness at the regional and international levels.

Husain Ahmed Al Shuail, Undersecretary for Civil Aviation Affairs, affirmed that Bahrain has achieved significant milestones in air traffic control, most notably the inauguration of the new Bahrain Air Traffic Control Centre, equipped with radar and air traffic management systems. The new centre represents a leap forward in enhancing the Kingdom's capacity to manage its airspace with efficiency and safety.

He added that Bahrain attaches importance to training national professionals and empowering Bahraini women in this field, which contributes to the sustainable development of the civil aviation sector. The Kingdom also continues to strengthen regional and international cooperation to ensure the safe and seamless flow of aircraft through its airspace, in line with the safety standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

This celebration reflects Bahrain's appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of its air traffic controllers amid the technological advancements shaping the aviation industry worldwide.
