Manama: Shaikh Khalid bin Ali bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council and President of the Court of Cassation, received a high-level delegation from Egypt's Court of Cassation led by Counsellor Assem El Ghaish, President of the Court and of the Supreme Judicial Council. The visit aimed to strengthen judicial cooperation and exchange expertise between the two institutions. Judge Dr. Hatem Fouad, Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the GCC Region, also attended.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting reviewed recent initiatives of Bahrain's Court of Cassation, including performance quality measurement standards, the drafting of a judicial code of conduct, and the unification of criminal sentencing criteria. Discussions also covered judicial training cooperation.
During the meeting, the Egyptian delegation proposed programmes for preparing judges to address cybercrime and digital security cases, improving legal translation of rulings and documents, and leveraging Egypt's extensive historical legal references. Both parties emphasised developing specialised legal resources in financial and commercial matters and sharing practical applications.
Within the strategic partnership with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, they also discussed establishing a regional network of supreme courts to enhance communication, knowledge exchange, and judicial standards across Arab states. The meeting highlighted the historical ties between Bahrain and Egypt and their shared commitment to advancing judicial collaboration in support of justice and the rule of law.
