Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainain received Acting Advocate General and the Head of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Mohammed Khalid Al Haza’a.
Al Buainain affirmed that the SIU proved its ability as an independent judicial body to carry out its tasks to the fullest, through the optimal application of the highest standards and principles of human rights.
The attorney general received the annual report on the work of the SIU during the past year.
He praised the professional level achieved by SIU and the efforts made by the head, members and affiliates of the unit in performing their duties and ensuring accountability in accordance with approved international practices, this resulted in its success, in partnership with all relevant national agencies and institutions, in continuing to decrease rates of crimes of torture and ill treatment.
The acting advocate general extended his thanks to the attorney general for his support to the unit, stressing that it will continue to carry out its responsibilities to establish respect and protection for human rights in Bahrain.
