Jeddah: Shaikh Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Arab Sailing Federation, chaired the Federation's Executive Committee meeting in Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on September 19. The meeting was attended by Saeed Zada, Secretary General of the Federation, and executive Committee members.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting reviewed several items on the agenda, including the minutes of the previous meeting and follow-up on its decisions, the Secretary General's report on the federation's activities, the Treasurer's report, and recommendations from the federation's committees.
The committee also discussed the federation's work plan and draft budget for the coming period, membership fee payments by Arab federations, and the date of the General Assembly meeting following the Olympic Games. It also considered the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria's proposal to host the 2027 Arab Sailing Championship and the fourth Arab Women's Sailing Championship in 2027. The committee also reviewed letters, proposals and requests from member federations.
The meeting discussed a request from the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association to ask the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees to include sailing in the 16th Arab Games in 2027. It also called on member federations to take part in the second Arab Women's Sailing Championship, to be held in Oman from October 15 to 21.
The committee approved the Syrian Rowing Federation's application to join the Arab Sailing Federation. It emphasised the need to comply with the federation's regulations for Arab championships, including only allowing athletes who hold the nationality of the Arab country they represent and not holding an Arab championship alongside another championship.
The Committee meeting in Jeddah coincided with the 2026 Arab Sailing Championship for the Optimist class, organised by the Saudi Sailing Federation under the auspices of the Arab Sailing Federation from September 17 to 21.
