AFC Unanimously Approves Statute Amendments at Extraordinary Congress in Tokyo

Tokyo:The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) unanimously approved amendments to its statutes during an Extraordinary Congress held in Tokyo. The meeting took place under the leadership of Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the President of the AFC.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the amendments were introduced following consultations with the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). These changes include transitional governance provisions intended to align the AFC's electoral and competition cycles with upcoming changes to FIFA's international calendar.

Additionally, the amendments provide for a significant scheduling change for the AFC Asian Cup, which will move from odd-numbered to even-numbered years, starting with the 2032 edition. The unanimous approval of these changes reflects a strong consensus among member associations on the importance of strengthening governance and ensuring continuity in the AFC's operations.
