Bahrain Advances Its National Emergency Management System

Accra:Lieutenant General Tariq bin Hassan Al Hassan, Chief of Police and Chairman of the National Civil Emergency Management Committee, has emphasized Bahrain's commitment to enhancing its national emergency management system. The Kingdom is focusing on prevention, preparedness, and the use of modern technologies for early warning and community awareness to safeguard lives and property while reducing disaster risks.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Lt. Gen. Al Hassan made these remarks on the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, observed annually on October 13. He underscored Bahrain's efforts to bolster its civil protection capabilities and highlighted the significant role of the media in raising community awareness, which complements the National Civil Protection Platform's efforts in promoting public safety.

General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, is overseeing the development of the Wireless Emergency Alert Project. This initiative aims to enhance warning systems, improve public communication, and strengthen coordination among relevant sectors. The project ensures that crucial information reaches the public efficiently before, during, and after emergencies.

Lt. Gen. Al Hassan stressed the importance of integrating early warning systems with risk-monitoring mechanisms to ensure timely and accurate alerts. He noted that these systems are essential for preparing for risks like severe weather and industrial incidents. The National Civil Protection Platform plays a vital role in promoting preventive education and encouraging households to prepare emergency plans.

He also emphasized the need to consider diverse societal groups, including persons with disabilities, older adults, and children, in awareness campaigns to ensure accessible and clear communication. Strengthening Bahrain's resilience to disasters requires a collaborative effort between authorities and the community, investment in prevention, and sustainable development initiatives.
