Shura Council and Political Development Institute Discuss Digital Security Legislation

Manama:The Secretariat General of the Shura Council, in collaboration with the Bahrain Institute for Political Development, conducted a session focused on legislation's role in safeguarding the state and society within the digital environment. Brigadier Ahmed Saad Al Rumaihi, Director General of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security at the Ministry of Interior, led the discussion.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the session emphasized the need for legislation to keep pace with rapid technological changes to effectively combat emerging cybercrimes and protect vital state systems and data.

Brigadier Al Rumaihi elaborated on the evolution of Bahrain's legal and institutional frameworks to tackle cybercrime, citing the enactment of Law No. (60) of 2014 on Information Technology Crimes. He underscored legislation's role in safeguarding the digital economy, regulating electronic evidence, and fostering international cooperation.

Shura Council members exchanged perspectives on the legislative challenges posed by technological advancements and new forms of cybercrime. They highlighted the necessity of continually updating the legislative framework to enhance information and data security, thereby protecting the state and society.

This session is part of the ongoing collaboration between the Shura Council Secretariat General and the Bahrain Institute for Political Development, aimed at improving parliamentary knowledge, exchanging expertise, and supporting Council members in fulfilling their legislative duties.
