Manama:MP Zainab Abdulameer Khalil took part in a meeting of the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs. This event was part of the activities of the Kingdom of Bahrain's Parliamentary Division delegation at the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly, held in Tanzania.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting addressed the role of the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team in their collaboration with the Government and Parliament of Tanzania, as well as the impact of recent institutional reforms, including the UN reform initiative.
The participants also considered a proposal to review the United Nations Charter, aiming to enhance the organization's effectiveness, representativeness, and responsiveness to contemporary challenges.
Furthermore, the meeting examined United Nations mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution. Key discussions included the role of the Peacebuilding Commission, strategic partnerships with regional peacebuilding organizations like the African Parliamentary Union, and the contributions of special envoys and mediators in field operations.
