Manama:The Kingdom of Bahrain will serve as the host for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in 2027, as announced by MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan. This decision is expected to enhance Bahrain's international parliamentary and youth presence.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the announcement took place during Bahrain's Parliamentary Division delegation's participation in the Conference of Young Parliamentarians, part of the 153rd General Assembly of the IPU. The delegation included MPs Hassan Ibrahim Hassan and Ali Saqr Al Doseri.
This hosting reflects Bahrain's commitment to expanding youth involvement in parliamentary work, fostering cooperation with international parliamentary organizations, sharing expertise, and showcasing the nation's progress in the youth sector. This progress has been achieved under the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with support from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
MP Hassan highlighted that Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Bahrain's Parliamentary Division, expressed support for hosting the conference. He emphasized Bahrain's readiness to organize parliamentary events and leverage them to strengthen parliamentary and youth relations and cooperation.
The conference addressed themes from the General Debate of the General Assembly and discussed young parliamentarians' perspectives on the draft resolution 'Inclusive social development for all: Parliamentary strategies to promote the rights and empowerment of people living with disabilities,' under consideration by the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights.
In related developments, the Bureau of the IPU Forum of Young Parliamentarians appointed MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan as rapporteur for two resolutions at the IPU General Assembly. One focuses on enhancing maritime security and protecting critical infrastructure during conflicts, considered by the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security. The other addresses parliamentary leadership in protecting mountain and marine ecosystems, aiming to conserve 30% of natural areas by 2030, under the consideration of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development.
The conference also reviewed recent developments in youth participation at global and national levels, key achievements and challenges, and the means to draw conclusions and formulate recommendations. Additionally, it discussed the IPU's current and upcoming activities to support youth participation.
