Manama:Raffles Al Areen Palace Bahrain: The Ministry of Interior (MOI) Open Powerlifting Championship 2026, organized by the Police Sports Association, has commenced with over 120 male and female athletes from 14 countries participating.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Brigadier Khalid Abdulaziz Al Khayat, President of the Police Sports Association, emphasized that the championship is held under the directives of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior, with oversight by Lieutenant General Tariq Al Hassan, the Chief of Police. This initiative is part of efforts to support and develop sporting activities while enhancing the level of competition.
Brigadier Al Khayat highlighted that international participation underscores Bahrain's capabilities in hosting and organizing international sporting events. This year's championship represents a significant development, with participation opened to global athletes and organized for the first time in cooperation with the World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF).
The championship includes various men's and women's powerlifting categories, along with other competitions and sporting activities. It is set to conclude on October 3 with a closing ceremony and the presentation of awards to winners in the various categories and competitions.
