Manama: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has renewed the accreditation of the Nursing Department at the College of Health and Sport Sciences at the University of Bahrain as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development in the Eastern Mediterranean Region for another four years. This achievement underscores the university's academic and professional reputation at both regional and international levels.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, emphasized that the renewal signifies a strategic achievement, reflecting the sustained confidence placed by WHO in the university. He remarked that it highlights the university's contributions to enhancing health education, scientific research, and building professional capacities in nursing and midwifery, reinforcing its dedication to preparing qualified professionals in accordance with international standards.
Dr. Leena Mohammed Khonji, Dean of the College of Health and Sport Sciences and Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development, noted that the centre has implemented various initiatives over the past few years to support WHO's efforts in investing in the health workforce and advancing the Health for All goal. She also pointed out the centre's plans to broaden regional and international cooperation and to prepare health leaders and nursing professionals capable of tackling future health challenges.
Dr. Asad Hafeez, Acting Representative of the World Health Organisation in Bahrain, expressed his approval of the accreditation renewal. He affirmed that combining WHO's global role and standards with Bahrain's expertise will open new avenues for benefiting from high-quality training and will help strengthen the capacities of the health workforce. This collaboration aims to establish solid foundations for universal health coverage and realize the Health for All slogan.
