Bahrain Supports IAEA’s Resolution on Syria’s Safeguards Agreement

Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain welcomed the adoption by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the resolution concerning the Syrian Arab Republic and the conclusion of consideration of the item concerning the implementation of the safeguards agreement in Syria.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the move as a positive development reflecting progress in Syria's cooperation with international and regional organisations in a transparent and responsible manner and in accordance with international law.

The ministry expressed Bahrain's appreciation for the efforts of the Arab Group on the IAEA Board of Governors, chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and with the participation of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Morocco, and its role in presenting the draft resolution. It commended its adoption by consensus, reflecting member states' support for the positive developments concerning Syria.

The ministry reiterated Bahrain's steadfast position in support of the Syrian Arab Republic and its national and constitutional institutions, in a manner that safeguards its unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, fulfils the aspirations of its people for security, stability and prosperity, and enables Syria to restore its active role at the Arab and international levels.
