NBR Enhances VAT Registration and Data Update Services

Manama: The National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) has developed a new Value Added Tax (VAT) registration and data update service, streamlining the process for taxpayers to register and update their information through the NBR's electronic portal. This initiative is part of the government's broader efforts to improve service quality and re-engineer existing services, aiming to ensure high compliance and accuracy of registered data.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the service encompasses new VAT registration applications and updates to existing data, including banking and financial information. This development facilitates compliance with VAT Law requirements for businesses whose economic activities surpass the mandatory registration threshold, while enhancing the accuracy of data registered with the NBR.

The enhanced service has reduced application processing time from 30 to 21 working days, through a re-engineered service process with simplified review and approval procedures. This acceleration aims to improve the taxpayer experience by achieving the highest service quality standards.

Rana Ibrahim Faqeehi, CEO of the NBR, stated that this development is part of the NBR's ongoing commitment to improve service quality by adopting best practices in streamlining procedures and developing electronic services. The re-engineered service reflects the NBR's dedication to providing more flexible and accessible services, supporting faster processing as part of the NBR's continuous service improvement plan.

In line with government efforts to upgrade and re-engineer services, over 1,300 government services have been documented, translated, and published, with approximately 800 services currently under development across various sectors. These efforts are informed by feedback from the National System for Suggestions and Complaints, investor input, and secret shopper reports, contributing to enhanced procedural efficiency and service quality while advancing the government's digital transformation agenda.
