Manama: The Department of Medical Education at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Arabian Gulf University (AGU) celebrated the graduation of its first cohort of academics who completed the Core Competencies in Fundamental Abilities in Medical Education (FAME) program, accredited by the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME) in the United Kingdom.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the graduation ceremony was graced by the presence of AGU Vice President for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research, Dr. Ghazi bin Abdulrahman Al-Otaibi, and Dean of College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Saleh Madadin. The program is part of AGU's strategic vision to foster the continuous professional development of its academic staff and to enhance medical education practices to meet international standards.
Dr. Al Otaibi and Prof. Madadin lauded the program's implementation and the high professional standards set by the intensive training workshops conducted by the Department of Medical Education. They highlighted the significance of such initiatives in fortifying the capabilities of academic staff and elevating the quality of medical education at the university.
During the event, Dr. Mohammed Al Eraky, Head of the Department of Medical Education, elaborated on the stages the participants underwent during the FAME program. Launched in December and spanning through February of the 2025-2026 academic year, the program aims to bolster faculty competencies in modern medical education.
Dr. Al Eraky reported that the program witnessed notable success, drawing participation from 78 academic staff members from AGU and other institutions. The program featured three main tracks: Teaching and Learning, Curriculum Design, and Student Assessment, with 34, 24, and 20 participants respectively.
He further emphasized that the program's accreditation by the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) and AoME has elevated its status, attracting interest from various healthcare institutions both within and beyond Bahrain. This recognition underscores its role as a leading specialized program in the field of medical education development.
