Manama: Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, said the Kingdom of Bahrain places environmental protection and biodiversity conservation among its strategic priorities, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
According to Bahrain News Agency, in a statement issued on the occasion of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, the minister commended the support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King, President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), and President of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), for national initiatives that support agricultural and environmental sustainability, expand green spaces and strengthen food security in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The minister also highlighted the continued follow-up by His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), in supporting national environmental initiatives, protecting natural resources and conserving biodiversity.
He said the Bahrain Mangrove initiative, launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, represents a leading national model for protecting the environment and promoting the sustainable management of natural resources through expanding mangrove cultivation and conserving coastal ecosystems.
The minister said the initiative supports the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 by enhancing the capacity of coastal ecosystems to absorb and store carbon, while protecting biodiversity, supporting marine sustainability and preserving environmental balance in coastal areas.
He added that the initiative reflects effective partnership among government entities, the private sector and the community in adopting innovative and sustainable solutions and promoting environmental responsibility. He emphasised that the Kingdom of Bahrain will continue implementing initiatives and projects that support its climate and environmental commitments and contribute to sustainable development.
