Manama: Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education, attended the launch of the implementation of the Arab Education Quality and Excellence Model, organised by the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education and hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain, alongside the launch of a four-day training programme for educational leaders at the ministry.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister stated that the model marks a step towards embedding a culture of quality and excellence in Arab educational institutions and strengthening regional cooperation to exchange expertise and improve educational outcomes. He emphasized that the Ministry of Education will continue implementing its national education development strategy by promoting excellence, integrating modern technologies, developing curricula, and empowering educational leaders and teachers. He also praised the collaboration between the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education and the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) in supporting education development across the Arab world.
Dr. Abdulrahman bin Ibrahim Al Mudaires, Director General of the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education, remarked that the launch signifies the transition from developing the model to its practical implementation. He explained that the model was developed through a joint Arab initiative led by the centre in partnership with ALECSO, with contributions from education experts and leaders from across the Arab world. The model draws on international references while considering the region's educational priorities and offers a practical framework for educational institutions to assess performance, identify development priorities, and develop evidence-based improvement plans.
Dr. Fatima Ibrahim Al Ruwais, Assistant Director General of the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education and Secretary of the Model's Higher Supervisory Committee, delivered a presentation outlining the model's philosophy, vision, domains, standards, indicators, and implementation pathways.
On the sidelines of the event, the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education signed a memorandum of understanding with Bahrain's Regional Centre for Information and Communication Technology, supervised by UNESCO and the Ministry of Education, to develop joint programmes, projects, and initiatives supporting quality and excellence in education. The agreement was signed by Nawal Ibrahim Al Khater, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education, and Dr. Fatima Ibrahim Al Ruwais.
The four-day training programme targets decision-makers and educational leaders across the Ministry of Education and focuses on implementing the model, building national capacities, analysing performance indicators and evidence, and developing data-driven institutional improvement plans.
