Manama: His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has issued Edict (31) of 2026, reconstituting the National Committee for the Elderly. This decision is in response to a proposal by the Minister of Social Development.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the reconstituted committee will be chaired by the Minister of Social Development and will include a diverse group of members representing various governmental and non-governmental organizations. The appointed members include the Inspector-General from the Ministry of Interior, the Deputy Chief Executive of Government Hospitals, the Assistant Undersecretary for Social Care and Rehabilitation from the Ministry of Social Development, and the Director of Radio Affairs from the Ministry of Information.
Further members include the Director of Benefits and Pensioners' Pensions Directorate from the Social Insurance Organisation, the Director of Minors Affairs Directorate from the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, and the Chief of Nursing Services at Primary Healthcare Centres. The committee also comprises a member from the Supreme Council for Women, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Hekma Retired Society, a member from the Bahrain Society for the care of parents, the Director of Her Highness Shaikha Hessa bint Ali Al Khalifa Centre for the Care of Elderly Bahraini Women, and the Secretary-General of the Bahrain Charity Association.
The committee members will serve a term of three years, with the possibility of renewal for a similar period. At the committee's inaugural meeting, the members will elect a deputy chairperson from among themselves. The ministers are mandated to implement the provisions of this edict, which will become effective the day after its publication in the Official Gazette.
