Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, led a coordination meeting in preparation for the Bahraini parliamentary division delegation's participation in the 39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU). The conference, which will be held remotely, focuses on strengthening Arab parliamentary cooperation to foster regional stability and promote sustainable development.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Musallam praised the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the oversight of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. These directives support joint Arab action and enhance consultation and coordination among Arab councils and parliaments. The initiatives aim to address Arab issues, achieve security and stability, and reinforce development efforts, which are crucial elements of Arab parliamentary work.
Al Musallam highlighted the significant role of parliaments and legislative councils in fostering joint Arab action and unifying parliamentary positions. He emphasized condemning the Iranian attacks and urged active engagement in regional and international parliamentary forums to halt the conflict and ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains an international passage vital to the global economy. Furthermore, he stressed the need to address violations of international charters, international law, and principles of good neighborliness.
The meeting reviewed the participation of the Bahraini Parliamentary Division delegation in various events, including the 39th AIPU meeting, the 42nd session of the Executive Committee of the Union, the Gulf coordination meeting, and the 47th meeting of the Association of Secretaries General of Arab Parliaments.
The AIPU conference agenda covers several vital topics, such as the transition of the presidency, implementation of resolutions from the 38th Conference, activities of the General Secretariat of the Union, and the internal regulations of the Union. Other items include the internal rules of the Arab Group within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), regulations for the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award, amendments to the voting mechanism on emergency items during the IPU General Assembly, the methodology for preparing concluding statements of AIPU, and the draft work programme and budget for the Union for 2026.
