Manama: Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Bahrain is set to host the 2026 BWF Para-Badminton World Championships from February 8-14. This event will be organized in cooperation with the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee, expressed pride in the championship's patronage, emphasizing its role in supporting the development of Paralympic sports in Bahrain. He noted that the event reflects confidence in Bahrain's ability to host global competitions to international standards, highlighting the Kingdom's advanced organizational capabilities and inclusive sports facilities for athletes with disabilities.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa also praised the committee's preparation efforts and the expertise of the administrative and organizational team. He stressed that these efforts would ensure a successful and well-managed championship, maintaining Bahrain's international sporting reputation.
The championship will be held at Isa bin Rashid Sports Hall, with designated halls for different athlete classifications. Hall B will be used for warm-ups, Hall C for standing athletes, and Hall D for wheelchair athletes. All arrangements will meet international safety and technical standards.
The event is one of the most prominent on the global Paralympic calendar and is expected to attract elite athletes from around the world. This will enhance Bahrain's position as a regional and international hub for major sporting events. Hosting the championship will also be historic, marking the first time the Paralympic World Badminton Championship is held in the Middle East, reinforcing Bahrain's status as a leading centre for international sports events.
