Finance Minister Highlights Bahrain’s Economy at Gateway Gulf Forum 2025

Manama: Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, participated in the panel session "Navigating Uncertainty in Global Markets" at the third edition of the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum 2025. The session included Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates, and Rt Hon Alderman Alastair King, Lord Mayor of the City of London.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the forum was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. It featured participation from senior officials, experts, and business leaders from Bahrain and across the globe.

During the discussion, Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa stressed the need for enhanced economic cooperation among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. He emphasized the directives of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to advance national initiatives under the Bahrain Team umbrella, aiming to create promising investment opportunities for Bahrain's economy.

The Finance Minister highlighted the Gulf region's strategic advantages and competitive strengths, which facilitate openness to global economies. He noted the support of advanced legislation, policies, and a skilled workforce capable of innovation in driving these strengths.

Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa also discussed the role of sovereign wealth funds in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) via joint ventures with global companies. He cited Mumtalakat Holding Company, Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund, as pivotal in capital allocation and empowering the private sector.

Moreover, he focused on diversifying Bahrain's economic base and enhancing strategic and investment partnerships with other countries. Key areas include financial services, clean energy, industry, technology, and the oil and gas sector, supported by local capacity building.

The Finance Minister highlighted the Tamkeen Labour Fund's support for national competencies, providing training and employment opportunities to ensure Bahraini professionals remain competitive in the labour market, alongside initiatives to foster entrepreneurship.

During the session, the panel addressed challenges in global markets and explored strategic opportunities. Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa additionally emphasized the role of innovation in economic growth, competitiveness, and the contribution of regional initiatives to economic stability.
