Kuwait city: Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), announced that member states have made significant progress in environmental action, translating their commitments into initiatives and projects that enhance their role in global climate and environmental efforts.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Budaiwi spoke at the 27th meeting of GCC ministers responsible for environmental affairs, held in Kuwait and chaired by Tareq Sulaiman Al Roumi, Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Environment of Kuwait. He emphasized that emission reduction and renewable energy policies are central to GCC strategies for building low carbon economies that balance growth with resource conservation.
Al Budaiwi noted that GCC countries are aligning national policies with global frameworks, including the 2015 Paris Agreement, and actively contributing to international efforts toward carbon neutrality and sustainable development. The GCC General Secretariat is coordinating joint environmental action through unified policies that support economic and development goals.
He further stated that member states have initiated steps to diversify energy sources, improve efficiency, expand the use of treated water, and invest in clean energy and hydrogen technologies. Al Budaiwi highlighted their adoption of the circular carbon economy model to reduce, reuse, recycle, and remove emissions sustainably.
