Bahrain Engages in Sudan Peace Initiatives Meeting

Addis Ababa: Bahrain, under its presidency of the Arab League Council at the 33rd Summit level, participated in a virtual technical working group meeting aimed at advancing peace initiatives in Sudan. Ahmed Mohamed Al Turaifi, Chief of Arab and African Affairs, represented Bahrain in the meeting, which took place at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa headquarters. The gathering included representatives from various countries and international and regional organizations concerned with Sudan.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Turaifi expressed appreciation to the office of Ramtane Lamamra, the UN Secretary General's Personal Envoy, for hosting the meeting. He acknowledged the efforts made to promote peace and stability in Sudan. Al Turaifi reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to utilizing diplomatic channels to encourage Sudanese parties towards achieving a comprehensive and sustainable peace solution.

Al Turaifi reiterated Bahrain's call for international support for the Sudanese people. He urged the international community to provide aid to humanitarian organizations operating in Sudan and to back economic and developmental initiatives aimed at rebuilding Sudan and achieving lasting stability. The meeting is part of the outcomes of the third consultative meeting on coordinating peace efforts in Sudan, which was held in Nouakchott, Mauritania, on December 18, 2024.
