JETEX & SHELL AVIATION SIGN AGREEMENT FOR SAF SUPPLY TO PRIVATE AVIATION

Jetex and Shell Aviation bring sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the flagship private terminal in Dubai.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Nov. 08, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Jetex, a global leader in executive aviation, is the first to offer SAF to customers in the United Arab Emirates. Building on the success of supplying SAF at selected locations in Europe, Jetex will now offer aircraft operators and private owners the possibility of significantly reducing emissions whenever they operate flights from its flagship private terminal in Dubai.

“Bringing SAF to the United Arab Emirates is a milestone achievement, and today I am pleased that we finally can offer this type of aircraft fuel to our customers in Dubai in partnership with Shell Aviation. It is even more important in light of 2023 being announced as the Year of Sustainability in the UAE as it cements our  ambition to reduce carbon emissions”, said Adel Mardini, Founder & CEO of Jetex.

As a safe and fully certified drop-in fuel compatible with existing aircraft fleet and airport infrastructure, SAF can be blended with conventional jet fuel at a ratio of up to 50%, creating an aviation fuel that is significantly lower in lifecycle carbon emissions. In its neat form, SAF can reduce lifecycle emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel.

Doris Tan, General Manager Asia and Middle East, Shell Aviation, said: “To reduce emissions from flying, all parts of the aviation value chain need to play their part. This is particularly crucial for private business customers as they can create a concentrated, high-impact demand for SAF. Additionally, expanding the availability of SAF to new locations is equally important, which is why it’s been highly rewarding to work with Jetex to enhance our SAF capabilities in the Middle East by delivering SAF at DWC for the first time.”

Jetex’s environment strategy focuses on reducing carbon emissions, recycling and adapting the latest green technologies across its global network. The company’s efforts are aligned with IATA’s commitment to fly net zero by 2050 and achieving this requires a combination of maximum elimination of emissions at the source, offsetting and carbon capture technologies.

It is vital for the future of aviation to continue to address climate change and Jetex remains focused on playing its part to reduce the impact on the planet.

Amman: ACC and PfG Join Forces to Support Jordan’s Farmers

Amman – The Agricultural Credit Corporation (ACC) and the global communities non-profit organization Partners for Good (PfG) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, marking a significant step towards supporting Jordanian farmers.

According to Jordan News Agency, the ceremony was attended by Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, ACC Director General, Mohammed Doujan, PfG CEO, Walid Tarawneh, and Regional Director of Advance Consulting, Lamia Debbas.

During the ceremony, Hneifat highlighted the importance of partnerships in supporting the ACC’s financing path, aligning with the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV) and the national plan for sustainable agriculture. The initiative aims to provide financing to farmers, supporting new projects and ensuring production sustainability. This approach also focuses on creating new job opportunities, in line with the government’s priorities. Doujan described the partnership with PfG as crucial for empowering individuals and communities in the agricultural sector by providing essential financial resources. PfG, in collaboration with Luminus Community Development through FAL Consulting and Administrative Services and ACC, is implementing the “Mahartak” (Youth JO – Level Up) Project. Supported by the Dutch Embassy in Jordan, this project is designed to enhance financial support to agricultural candidates, contributing significantly to the growth of Jordan’s agricultural sector.

UN Human Rights Commissioner Deplores Conditions at Rafah Crossing, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire

GAZA – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has expressed deep concern over the dire humanitarian conditions at Egypt’s Rafah crossing, describing it as “the gates to a living nightmare.” Türk’s remarks came following his visit to the crossing, a critical juncture for the 2.3 million people in Gaza.

According to Jordan News Agency, the situation in Gaza is extremely dire, with people mourning their lost family members and desperately struggling for basic necessities like water, food, electricity, and fuel. He noted the unbearable conditions, emphasizing that his own colleagues are among those trapped and suffering losses.

Türk described the Rafah crossing as a “symbolic lifeline” for Gaza’s population, but lamented that this lifeline has been “unjustly, outrageously thin.” He urgently called for a ceasefire, highlighting three critical human rights imperatives: the delivery of massive humanitarian aid throughout Gaza, the unconditional and immediate release of all hostages held since October 7, and the creation of political space to implement a durable end to the occupation.

During his visit to El Arish hospital in North Sinai, Türk met individuals who have suffered greatly due to the conflict. He shared the story of Ikram, a woman who lost her baby and underwent a hysterectomy after being hit by shrapnel. He also mentioned meeting Mohammad, a 12-year-old boy from Jabaliya with spinal injuries and bone fractures, who arrived at Rafah unaccompanied and traumatized.

Türk emphasized that the current situation in Gaza, Israel, and the West Bank is the most dangerous in decades, not only for the people directly affected but also regionally. He addressed concerns about perceived double standards in the conflict, insisting that the world cannot afford such disparities. Instead, he stressed the need to adhere to universal standards based on international human rights and humanitarian laws.

The UN top official concluded his remarks by underscoring the need for immediate action to address the escalating crisis and ensure the protection and rights of all affected individuals.

Amman: UK-Jordan Military Cooperation Discussed by Army Chiefs

Amman – In a significant step towards strengthening military ties, Major General Yousef Ahmed Hnaity, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with Martin Sampson, the British Defence Senior Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa, and his delegation this Wednesday.

According to Jordan News Agency, the high-level meeting focused on enhancing military relations and collaborative frameworks between Jordan and the United Kingdom.

The discussions in Amman touched upon various issues of mutual interest, including potential areas for military cooperation between the two nations’ armed forces. Major General Hnaity and Sampson also delved into recent developments at both regional and international levels, underscoring the importance of joint efforts to tackle challenges and threats. The meeting highlighted the need to reinforce security and stability in the region and to advance defense cooperation, including elevating security and military coordination.

Amman: King Abdullah and UN Chief Discuss Gaza Ceasefire and Aid

Amman – His Majesty King Abdullah, in a significant phone conversation with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a humanitarian truce.

According to Jordan News Agency, the discussion on Wednesday focused on the critical situation in Gaza and the vital role of the international community in addressing it.

The King and the UN Secretary-General agreed on the necessity for the international community to actively support the uninterrupted delivery of essential supplies such as food, medicine, water, and fuel to Gaza. King Abdullah underscored the crucial role of the UN and its agencies in delivering relief services in the region, stressing the importance of continued support for these organizations and facilitating their operations. His Majesty reaffirmed that a political resolution, specifically a two-state solution, is the sole viable approach to conclusively resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and emphasized that military and security measures alone cannot achieve lasting peace.
