Telecommunications Minister Attends Arab Meeting

Algiers-Sept30 (BNA)Minister of State for Telecommunications Affairs Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa today led Bahrain delegation to the 17th session of the Arab Telecommunications Ministers Council.

Representatives of twenty-two Arab countries and Arab League officials are taking part in the event, being held in Algiers, Algeria. The ministers will discuss preparations for the World Telecommunications Development Summit, scheduled to be held in Sharm Al-Sheikh Resort in Egypt in January 2014 and the conference of International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Commissioners.

The Arab ministers, experts and specialists discussed pan-Arab cooperation and the upcoming Afro-Arab Summit and the Arab Countries-South American Summit. The session will also discuss the 2016 Postal Strategy for the Arab Region, in addition to other key telecommunications and IT projects.

The ministers will also attend the second session of annual Arab Forum for Internet Governance. The Arab League is organizing the symposium in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).
