Germany Welcomes Adoption of Security Council Resolution on Syria

New York, September 28 (BNA) – German Foreign Minister Westerwelle has welcomed the adoption of a UN Security Council resolution on Syria.

“This agreement lets us hope that the next few days will see the adoption of a legally binding regime by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague and the Security Council in New York, which will set clear targets for the Syrian regime and a precise timetable for the elimination of its chemical weapons arsenal,” he said.

“It would be good if this step in the right direction were to be followed by new efforts towards a political solution and a Geneva conference attended by the parties to the conflict,” the German top diplomat added.
