Manama: The Bahrain National Triathlon Team won the gold medal for women in the West Asian Championship held in Aqaba. Athlete Samira Al-Bitar completed the race which comprised 750 m swimming, 20 km cycling and 5 km running at a record time of 01.06 hours. Compatriot athletes Omar Hamza and Mohammed Mubarak also won the silver and bronze medals in the youth category, for the same distance.
Shaikh Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Triathlon Association (BTA), extended his sincere congratulations to HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of HM the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee on the Bahrain National Triathlon Team’s leading results.
He noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues to assert its honourable presence in various regional and international participations, its champions garnering achievement after achievement thanks to the support of the wise leadership and the follow-up of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Saqer affirmed that this accomplishment is an addition to the Kingdom’s impressive track record in the triathlon sport. He welcomed these results, stemming from the Kingdom’s Triathlon family’s hard work, which would motivate endeavours to elevate the level of this sport in the Kingdom, placing Bahrain in a leading position.
Shaikh Saqer said that the continuous success of triathlon athletes in international participations pushes for more efforts to develop the sport, in order to crown efforts with honourable achievements for Bahrain.
